The course enables participants to:

• Explain the main features of relevant transport modes and make sound decisions on modal choice for each movement
• Exercise judgement in the selection of best technical solution to transport problems
• Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of the regulatory framework within which your transport operations are conducted
• Effectively manage transport service contracts and contractors
• Supervise vehicle loading and load security
• Create safe and effective journey plans and supervise operations in accordance with the HSE policy, industry best practice and local legislation
• Create efficient and cost effective transport schedules using manual methods and understand the role of IT systems in transport scheduling
• Contribute to the development, planning and monitoring of transport operating budgets using fixed and flexible budget techniques
• Calculate the cost of the transport services provided and relate this to units of output and traffic volume
• Relate provision of transport to customer requirements and make sound judgements regarding prioritisation
• Communicate effectively with transport users
• Manage the relationship with their customers to ensure the highest level of satisfaction.
