Your suppliers are key to your organisation’s success.  Well managed, they can become valued partners; poorly managed, they can increase costs, disrupt customer relationships – and damage your company’s reputation.
Managing your supplier base involves a range of skills.  Appraisal, registration, performance measurement and rating all help to create a supplier network that can add real value to your own operation.  The final step is arguably the most important: developing your suppliers’ skills and competencies so that they contribute less to your costs and more to your bottom line.

Often these individual components are the responsibility of different functions or departments. The key to success is to see supplier management as an integrated process.

We have designed this course for staff with some years’ experience who are due to progress to supervisory or junior management positions. They are likely to work in Procurement, Finance or Logistics but may be from a range of disciplines. Graduate entrants and development trainees will also find the course helpful.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Help design and apply effective supplier appraisal processes
  • Develop and manage a supplier base systematically
  • Work with preferred supplier lists to develop robust processes for tendering and awarding contracts
  • Design and implement a vendor rating system
  • Use data about vendors effectively
  • Understand suppliers’ viewpoints and develop cooperative relationships with them
  • Identify and agree performance improvement targets with suppliers
  • Design, implement and monitor development plans with suppliers
