Aim

Consultant:

David MacLeod, BA, FCILT.

David is an External Associate of Cranfield University based at their Shrivenham campus working with the Acquisition and Logistics Unit of the Department of Defence Management, and an independent consultant advising organizations and coaching individuals on achieving supply chain and logistics best practice through effective training, education and learning.

After graduating with Honours in Economics and Geography he joined the National Freight Corporation, which was at the time the largest freight organization in the UK and spent his early management career with BRS, (the forerunner of Exel), in transport, warehousing and work study/industrial engineering. He then spent 6 years with Boots the Chemists in the 1970's in both wholesale and retail distribution project work, subsequently moving to Scotland to Leyland Vehicles (the Truck and Bus Division of British Leyland) as their Transportation Planning Manager, a role involving both operational management and strategic and tactical planning, followed by a year setting up and operating a new National Distribution Centre for Holt Lloyd Limited.

The majority of the 1980's were spent with Scottish and Newcastle Breweries in Edinburgh in a variety of roles that involved operational line management, systems development, industrial engineering, logistics strategy and inventory management. This diversity continued with Arjo Wiggins Appleton (a major world paper manufacturing and marketing company) in paper merchanting, which was the largest paper wholesaler to business in the UK, prior to spending over 3 years in the building products industry, managing logistics operations.

David joined Logistics Training International Limited in 1996 as their Director, Performance Improvement, and was the company's Managing Director from 1997 to 2002, where most of his work was with European based trans-national companies developing supply chain learning programmes to fit the business needs of the 21st century.
