Practical Supervision Skills

A 5-day course


This course is designed for
Recently appointed team leaders and supervisors and those who are likely to be appointed to such positions in the near future. Experienced supervisors and team leaders would also benefit from this course as a refresher programme.

The course is biased towards supervisors and team leaders working in an operational environment, but is also for valuable people in supporting roles, such as procurement and HR staff.

Aims
To provide participants with;
• the competencies that will enable them to make the transition from team member to team leader
• an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a supervisor
• a range of competencies that will equip them to become effective first line managers.

At the end of the course participants will be able to:
  • define the role of the supervisor
  • describe and recognise different supervisory styles
  • understand how motivation occurs and recognise possible causes of demotivation
  • describe how teams are formed and the different roles that people can contribute
  • manage time
  • delegate effectively
  • communicate clearly
  • set achievable targets
  • behave assertively
  • place appropriate emphasis on hse issues
  • deal effectively with management.
