Supply Chain Management

Introduction to the Supply Business

An overview of procurement, storage, transport, inventory management and other aspects of the supply business.

This training programme puts all the related activities within the supply chain into context in relation to one another, and allows the participants to put their own jobs into context within the total process. It allows them to understand what has happened prior to their own input and how their activity impacts on the people further down the process.

This course is intended for staff who have experience in one or more parts of the supply department and who need a broad overview of the complete supply function. It is also suitable from development trainees and others who are new to the supply function.

The course provides participants with the ability to:

  • list the various phases in the supply process
  • demonstrate an understanding of the procurement process
  • discuss the different types of supplier relationships
  • explain how storage should be organised and what types of storage are available
  • demonstrate an understanding of the principles of Inventory Management
  • explain the measures needed to maintain safety in the materials environment
  • discuss the role of the Supply function and its contribution to the business
