Key Commercial Concepts - Economics, Finance and Trade

Develop an understanding of the commercial world in which you are operating and equip yourself to make more effective procurement decisions.

Understanding the commercial business environment and the barriers to and facilitators of trade is a fundamental tool for anyone operating in the field of procurement. Such knowledge will assist you to make robust purchasing decisions based on an effective evaluation of the circumstances in which you are operating. Knowledge of the principals of commercial accounting and the tools used by accounting professionals will additionally enhance your decision making skills in the area of evaluation of current and potential suppliers.

Knowing what tools are available, how to use them, what assistance is available and what questions to ask, is an important step towards making informed decisions in purchasing, as in other management functions. This course will give you a firm foundation you need to have confidence in your decision making processes.

The course provides participants with:

• The ability to evaluate economic environment they are operating in
• an understanding of the principles of Financial Accounting
• an understanding of the principles of Management Accounting
• knowledge and experience of using Accounting tools to: appraise potential suppliers, cost goods and services, carry out option appraisals
• knowledge of the fundamental economic principles
• an understanding of the macro and micro economic circumstances facing them.
• knowledge of the factors affecting trade, globally and locally
• knowledge of the practice of international trade.
