DANGEROUS GOODS SAFETY ADVISER

This programme is designed to help those organisations operating within the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) framework and, as an example of best practice, those operating outside the framework to increase the safety of operations concerning the handling, storage and movement by road of dangerous goods.

It is designed to prepare people for the examination for the DGSA VOCATIONAL CERTIFICATE Awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). The public examination is scheduled for the week after this course, on 30th November 2006.

Aim:

The course will provide participants with:

  • the key skills and techniques to safely manage the handling, storage and transport by road of all classes of dangerous goods.
  • the ability to fill the role of Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser within their organisation for all classes of dangerous goods
  • the ability to pass the examinations leading to the award of the SQA DGSA Vocational Training Certificate.

Objectives:

To enable participants to:

  • identify and classify dangerous goods.
  • mark, label and placard dangerous goods, their packaging and the vehicles carrying them in accordance with ADR.
  • specify suitable packaging and other containment and protection systems.
  • specify suitable vehicles for the transport of different dangerous substances.

Course Description:

The course will address the necessary competences and knowledge require of a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser under the terms of the ADR Agreement concerning the carriage of dangerous goods by road. During this part of the programme there will be numerous individual and group exercises and case studies.

  • Transport of Dangerous Goods (Safety Adviser) Regulation.
  • The Core and Principles of ADR.
  • Road Transport Operations.
  • Additional Classes of Dangerous Goods.
  • Class Specific Hazards and Secondary Hazards.
  • Individual and Group Exercises.
