This course provides line transport managers and supervisors with the skills and knowledge necessary to support competent operational decision making, resulting in a high level of customer needs satisfaction at a low unit cost of transport, whilst paying due attention to the overriding needs of HSE.
The course enables participants to:
- Relate provision of transport to customer requirements and make sound judgements regarding prioritisation
- Explain the main features of relevant transport modes and make sound decisions on modal choice for each movement
- Communicate effectively with transport users
- Calculate the cost of transport services and relate this to units of output and traffic volume
- Plan and monitor transport operating budgets using fixed and flexible budget techniques
- Create efficient and cost effective transport schedules using manual methods and understand the role of IT systems in transport scheduling
- Effectively manage transport service contracts and contractors
- Supervise vehicle loading and load security
- Create safe and effective journey plans and supervise operations in accordance with the HSE policy, industry best practice and local legislation.
