Marine and Supply Base Operations for Offshore Support
A further successful course was held early in May 2011 and attracted delegates from as far afield as Brasil to Kazakhstan, and many countries in between.
This course provides an introduction to safe and effective marine transport and supply base operations in the support of off-shore and gas operations.
A key part of the learning – and why the course is run from Great Yarmouth – is the opportunity for delegates to undertake site visits to a range of operational bases in the area.
Question: how valuable are site visits to learning?
If you are one of these delegates, or a past participant, why not share your thoughts on this question?
It would also be interesting to hear from others – training managers and coordinators, and line managers.
To help people who may be interested in the next course – what were your highlights?

As the course director for the Marine course I would like to take the opportunity to make a couple of comments on the recent course. First that the calibre of the candidates was excellent & they all participated enthusiastically in all aspects of the course. I felt that the range of experience & skills of the candidates added to the learning experience for everyone as they all had valid contributions to make. As far as the “site visits” are concerned, I set them up to give the candidates a real insight into what can be achieved in both extremes:
First a brownfield site where the operator has to make best use of existing infrastructure & compromise accordingly to ensure good service provision to its customers.
Second to a greenfield site where the port has built a facility from scratch to suit the demands & requirements of their customers & the markets in which they operate.
This gives the candidates the information to then assess various options to meet their specific demands & challenges.
Thanks, Chris.
